Marvel Comics' armor-clad superhero Iron Man gets another update in this animated feature, which incorporates much of his mythology in its energetic storyline. Here, millionaire Tony Stark (voiced by Marc Worden, who performed similar duties for Marvel's Ultimate Avengers and its sequel) is inspired to create his iconic suit after being injured at an archaeological dig in China. His heroic alter ego isn't the only thing to arise from the dig; the ancient city harbors a quartet of elemental spirits, who seek to resurrect the Mandarin and continue his reign of evil. Hardcore Marvel fans may decry some of the deviations from the original Iron Man text (Stark's father Howard is alive and well in the feature, and the suits are already in development by the time Stark is injured), but the prevalence of numerous figures from the source material (in addition to the Mandarin, there's James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, Pepper Potts, the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Wong Chu, and glimpses of several incarnations of the Iron Man suit) and the overall vigor of the story and the quality of the 2-D and 3-D animation should please most viewers, and makes for an enjoyable alternative to the impressive 2008 live-action film. Extras include a making-of featurette which discusses Stark's 1960s origins in the comic book and the direction taken in the movie, as well as a terrific gallery of Shellhead's various suits worn throughout his storied career. A glimpse at Marvel's next animated feature--Doctor Strange--is also included. Note for parents: The Invincible Iron Man contains some intense violence and implied nudity, so discretion should be taken before screening for very young viewers. --Paul Gaita

Rethinking Iron Man

If you appreciate the updates to the Superman mythology made by Smallville producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, you'll appreciate this updated version of Iron Man's origin. It was great to see shellhead's aquatic armor, the original robot-like grey suit, and the classic red and gold. The animators used more CGI here than in the Avengers animated movies, but it meshes well with the cell animation. The lava animation in the underground battle scene is excellent. The pacing is fairly good and the changes made to both Iron Man's and the Mandarin's origins were clearly wise decisions. Changes are good as long as they make sense. The changes made here certainly do, especially in today's day and age where viewers tend to be more sophisticated. If the storytelling for the 2008 Iron Man motion picture is half as good as this animated movie, it should be one of the best super hero movies ever made! If you're looking for an intelligent update of a classic super hero along with strong storytelling and well above-average voiceover work, look no further than the Invincible Iron Man! This is definitely geared for an older audience though. I can't see children warming up to so much dialogue. I can't wait to see Doctor Strange! PLEASE MAKE MORE IRON MAN ANIMATED MOVIES LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (A stand alone Captain America animated movie would be a good idea too)
Great

I think others will enjoy this movie, especially if they have children and I would recommend this movie to families. Although there were some changes in the origin of Iron Man, I felt they did a great job of incorporating the past, while bringing into the present. I was convinced that this Tony Stark was the same Stark from the comic books and the same can be said of the other characters. The story and the battle scenes where excellent, however the quality/detail of animation could've been better. Still, I rate this higher than any of the Batman Beyond DVD's, Justice League DVD's, etc. but that's just my taste.

I don't agree with some of the other revewers on this one. this movie rocked I can't wait to see the live action Iron Man movie coming out next year. So far most of the marvel movies stuck true to the comic books, Except the Hulk i can't understand why Stan Lee let Ang Lee screw that movie up big time, Ho well Mabey The Incedeble Hulk will be Better. All in All Iron Man rules!
